From the first commercial radio station in America in 1920, radio quickly became a mainstay in the American household as the only medium able to reach homes nationwide. Stations began popping up everywhere, broadcasting news, sports, comedy, opera, serials and finally giving a platform for popular music and artists to spread like wildfire. Within 2 years alone, over a million radio sets were in operation across the country, bringing radio into its Golden Age.
Through a span of more than 40 years, that golden era introduced the masses at home and abroad to iconic artists like The Platters, Lena Horne, Glen Miller and an almost endless list of names that still stream across the airwaves to this day.
